The Season of Lent begins with the celebration of Ash Wednesday. It falls on February 28th this year. Imposition of Ashes is a tradition followed by many Christian denominations, including the United Methodist Church. Ashes remind us that we came from the dust and we will return to the dust - and they are also a symbol to remind us that Lent calls us back to God and invites us to be more fully the people God has made us to be.

Where do the ashes come from?
|
We burn the Palms from Palm Sunday last year to make the ashes. If you have a palm branch from last year, try this with your kids and leave the bowl in the middle of your table during the Lenten season.

Ash Wednesday is a great time to plant your table Lent Garden so it will be in bloom at Easter!

You might use ashes to make this Lenten devotional center piece for your family table. Have your children help you find stones and pine cones in your yard.
